Liverpool fans were left scratching their heads this week after a curious post from Darwin Nunez set social media on fire.
The striker, who has struggled for regular starts lately, posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) that many believe pointed to his growing frustration at Anfield.
The timing couldn’t have been more dramatic. Just a day before Liverpool's crucial clash against Tottenham, Nunez took to X with a post that didn’t pull any punches.
However, much like a VAR decision, the post was deleted almost as quickly as it appeared — but not before fans captured screenshots.
The short-lived post reportedly read: “No wonder I didn’t play more, because the last game I started in the Premier League went well and suddenly…”
The message, though brief, said a lot.
And while Nunez later tried to calm the waters with a cheerful selfie alongside teammate Alexis Mac Allister captioned “Good morning!”, the damage had been done. Liverpool’s transfer rumor mill, already spinning fast, shifted into overdrive.

Was there more behind the Darwin Nunez deleted X post?
Many believe Nunez's comment hints at frustration beyond just team selection. Some reports suggested Liverpool might owe Benfica an extra £4.2 million if Nunez started another game this season.
While Liverpool insiders have downplayed that story, it hasn’t stopped tongues from wagging.
New Liverpool manager Arne Slot didn’t exactly close the door on the idea either. When asked, he said: “Do you always believe what journalists say? Not always? Me neither.”
Slot went on to defend the club’s leadership, saying: “The last, last, last, last, last thing he would do, as I expect working with him for 10 months, is tell me: ‘If you play him it would cost us this much’.”
Still, with summer approaching, it’s clear Darwin Nunez’s future will be a hot topic.
