Philadelphia mayor's Eagles flub explained: Cherelle Parker butchers E-A-G-L-E-S chant ahead of NFC Championship image

Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and company will suit up on Sunday afternoon with a chance to send the Eagles to the Super Bowl for the second time in three years.

They came up short in Super Bowl 57, but a victory in the NFC Championship game would give them a shot at redemption. All that stands in their way is Jayden Daniels and the red-hot Washington Commanders.

The Eagles will play at home on Sunday afternoon, with the Commanders making the trip north to Lincoln Financial Field. As Philadelphia prepares to host a conference championship game yet again, the city is starting to get fired up and show its Eagles pride.

The mayor of Philadelphia, Cherelle Parker, is even getting in on the action. In a speech earlier this week, Parker attempted to lead the classic "E-A-G-L-E-S" chant. Unfortunately, she brutally botched the spelling of "Eagles".

Philadelphia mayor Eagles chant mistake

The Eagles are synonymous with the city of Philadelphia. For some growing up in the area, "Eagles" is the first word they know how to pronounce or spell.

Although she's a Philly native, Mayor Parker may need to take a minute to revisit how you spell the name of her hometown's football team. While attempting to rile up the city for Sunday's game, Parker chanted, "E-L-G-S-E-S, Eagles! Let's go Birds!"

With five days before kickoff, Mayor Parker should have plenty of time to recover from this blunder and properly lead the chant ahead of Sunday's game.

What is the Eagles fight song?

"Fly, Eagles Fly", formally known as "The Eagles' Victory Song",  is the official fight song of the Philadelphia Eagles. Fans at Lincoln Financial Field sing the song after every touchdown the Eagles score.

The song was originally written in 1955, but it underwent some lyrical changes before becoming a staple feature of the fan experience at The Linc in the 1999 season. Here are the lyrics to the song.

Fly, Eagles, fly
On the road to victory
Fight, Eagles, fight
Score a touchdown 1-2-3
Hit ‘em low
Hit ‘em high
And watch our Eagles fly
Fly Eagles fly
On the road to victory
E-A-G-L-E-S!
Eagles!
