There he was on Monday evening.

Yep, Andrew Luck, taking snaps in the shotgun for Stanford's football team.

Now no, Luck has no eligibility remaining after his days with the Cardinal led to being the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft and starring for the Indianapolis Colts.

But yes, Luck is back at his alma mater.

He's the general manager for the football program now, a surprisingly powerful role at Stanford for Luck.

It makes sense that he went back, given that he takes such pride in his alma mater.

It also makes sense that Luck found his way back to the football field.

After his shock NFL retirement from the Colts, Luck disappeared from the game for a bit.

But it was always clear just how much Luck loved football, if not in its most professional moments but more so in its purest of scenes.

A shotgun snap and a handoff in a random spring practice in April is the purity of it all. It's not the pressure or cameras or expectation. It's just football for football's sake.

Luck surely will pass on plenty of knowledge to those on the current Cardinal roster.

His role isn't to be a coach, but given how much he could pass on, he'll be asked plenty of questions.

It's too bad, though, that Luck won't be taking another snap in a real football game for either Stanford or the Colts.

He hung up his helmet just a bit too soon. Any sight of him on the field is certainly one filled with nostalgia.
