One of the top softball programs in Louisiana has a chance to punch yet another trip to the state tournament.
North DeSoto will be playing at home Friday afternoon in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Division II Non-Select quarterfinals. The top-seeded Lady Griffins will face Jennings, the No. 9 seed, in Stonewall, La.
Friday’s winner will advance to next week’s LHSAA state softball tournament in Sulphur, with the semifinals on May 2 and the championship game the following day. North DeSoto won state from 2021-23 and played in the title game last season but lost to Lutcher.
North DeSoto made it back to the quarterfinals by defeating Rayne, 11-0, in the regional round earlier this week, as Sasha Falls hit a pair of home runs. Maddy Stringer also went 3-for-3, while winning pitcher Avery McCloskey gave up two hits, struck out 10 and had two hits and three RBIs on offense.
That win moved the Lady Griffins to 29-3.
Jennings (15-9) made it to Friday’s quarterfinal after defeating South Terrebonne, 4-2. Emma Venable and Ryleigh Daigle each went 3-for-4 and combined to drive in all four runs, with Venable hitting a home run and picking up three of those RBIs. Winning pitcher Jenna Morvant gave up no earned runs on five hits, striking out two.
The winner between Jennings and North DeSoto will face the winner of the quarterfinal between No. 4 seed Iota and No. 5 seed Lutcher in next week’s semifinals at Sulphur.
