Even WWE legend John Cena isn't immune to the sting of criticism.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, April 21, Cena admitted to undergoing a hair transplant after being mocked by WWE fans for a bald spot.
The 47-year-old wrestler, who recently clinched his 17th WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41, opened up about the bullying he experienced about his hair loss. “You chant and you make me feel small and you embarrass me,” Cena explained, calling out the fans for their harsh remarks. “That is straight-up bullying. That’s just not cool. I don’t like it,” he added.
Cena revealed that the teasing, which included signs mocking his hair line, pushed him to take action. “So, thank you for bullying me into getting surgical hair replacement. That’s how far y’all push me,” he joked, acknowledging the pressure to fix the issue. He also described the process of getting the transplant, noting that while the old hair falls out, the new hair has to grow in.
Despite the light-hearted tone, Cena made it clear that the experience was emotionally difficult. “And you guys, by the way, thank you for being so aware of my needs and emotions, because you guys ripped me to shreds for a genetic problem that I can’t control,” he said, referring to the fans’ relentless comments about his appearance.
While the transplant is still a work in progress, Cena assured fans that he’s already seeing results. "It's coming in, man. It’s coming. Hopefully, in a couple of months, it looks better.”
