The New York Giants made plenty of headlines when they traded back into the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Even though most believed a move like that would be reserved for Shedeur Sanders, the Giants made the move in order to bring Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart to East Rutherford.
The Giants gave up the Nos. 34 and 99 picks along with a 2026 third-rounder so they could get the No. 25 overall pick from the Houston Texans.
It was a costly move, but one that graded out favorably in the eyes of ESPN's Seth Walder, who gave it a B+ mark.
"That would be an overpay for a non-quarterback. But usual trade calculations fly out the window for quarterbacks, as the upside of hitting at that position is typically far greater than at others. It makes sense for the Giants to take this risk and walk away with a prospect with some upside," Walder wrote.
The Texans wound up taking Iowa State wide receiver Jayden Higgins at No. 34 while trading the No. 99 pick to the Las Vegas Raiders, who took William & Mary offensive tackle Charles Grant.
Upside will be one of the key terms associated with Dart. He has intriguing traits, but his game certainly needs to be developed further if he's going to have a long-term role as a starter in the NFL.
The Giants made their big move to potentially grab the future of the franchise, and it will be interesting to see how this trade is viewed a few years down the road.
