The St. Louis Cardinals are coming off of a key weekend series win over the New York Mets, though they still have a 16-19 record and aren't expected to be a playoff team.
The team is in the middle of a transition season, which means that younger players will receive more playing time. This also could include the team saying goodbye to some familiar faces.
Last offseason, St. Louis attempted to trade Nolan Arenado, but to no avail, though he is off to a decent start in 2025.
In his latest piece in The Athletic, insider Jim Bowden proposed the idea of St. Louis sending Arenado to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for prospects Josh Randall and Carson Rucker.
"Arenado has a full no-trade clause and has not indicated he would accept a move to the Motor City. However, perhaps the eight-time All-Star would reconsider the opportunity to join Detroit, a playoff team with one of the best and deepest five-man rotations in MLB," Bowden writes.

Detroit was not on Arenado's original list of preferred destinations, but they now have the best record in the American League, so perhaps the All-Star third baseman could change his mind if they continue at this pace.
Trading the 10-time Gold Glover would also open up third base for either Nolan Gorman or Thomas Saggese. The original intent of the Cardinals "reset" was to give those players more chances, and Arenado being gone would allow them to do just that.
The Cardinals also need to add more prospects to their system, as they are thin in that department, and another key sticking point of their rebuild was to strengthen the farm system.
We'll see where things stand at the trade deadline.
