The Boston Red Sox have had a less than good offseason this year, and it seems it will be even worse if they cannot land Alex Bregman. However, Red Sox insider Chris Cotillo proposed ideas to make sure this offseason can be chalked as a success, though not what they wanted it to be. Here are the top ideas:

  1. Acquire Nolan Arenado

Arenado has been on the Sox’s radar for a while, as he is a right-handed slugger that also has a stellar glove at third. This would mean Rafael Devers would have to move to DH, and then something would have to be done with Masataka Yoshida, but that’s a bridge that can be crossed later.

  1. Sign David Robertson

The Sox need to get one more high-octane reliever, and a lot of top notch pitchers have left the board. Robertson could be that guy to take Chris Martin’s spot in the eighth inning as the set-up man, and then the Sox’s bullpen will be complete.

  1. Re-sign Nick Pivetta

This would be a weird deal, as it seems like Pivetta had no chance of coming back. However, he still hasn’t gotten any offers, so his market is starting to dwindle. If the Sox offered him a place as the sixth starter and the long arm in the bullpen, there shouldn’t be a reason he says no.

Hopefully the Sox do get Bregman, but if they could pull off the above, that would be enough to save their offseason.
