Paige Bueckers says “The weather’s hotter than me”—but Dallas Wings fans might disagree image

The future of the Dallas Wings just touched down—and they’re already embracing the Texas spirit. Fresh off one of the most anticipated WNBA drafts in recent history, the Wings’ rookie class, headlined by No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers, has officially arrived in Dallas.

Bueckers, alongside fellow draftees Aziaha James (No. 12), Madison Scott (No. 14), JJ Quinerly (No. 26) and Aaronette Vonleh (No. 30), was introduced at the team’s “Meet the Rookies” press conference—complete with cowboy hats, fitting for their new home.

“There's a lot of new in this organization,” said Bueckers. “So to be part of something and build with each other and just create a new sisterhood—really excited.”

The departure of Bueckers marks a major shift for UConn, but the Wings gain a dynamic leader hungry to invest in her new team and city. When asked how it feels to be "the hottest thing in Dallas right now," Bueckers laughed and deflected the praise with charm, “I mean, I would say the weather’s probably hotter than me.”

The excitement was palpable—not just for the game, but for the culture. Both Bueckers and James shared their enthusiasm for Texas staples like boots, cowboy hats and country music.

Aziaha James, the fiery guard from NC State, made her intentions clear. “This whole team is full of dawgs and I’m ready to be a part of it—continue the legacy that the Dallas Wings is going to have.”

James and her fellow rookies will have the chance to develop under the guidance of seasoned leaders like Arike Ogunbowale and DiJonai Carrington, joining a roster already rich in experience.
