The Boston Red Sox have had second base be on lease to multiple players after losing their franchise second basemen in Dustin Pedroia years ago. However, that void may be filled with this new prospect. According to MLB Pipeline, Red Sox no.2 overall prospect Kristian Campbell is the best second basemen prospect in the Minor Leagues.
This past season, Campbell was tearing it up in the minors, where he went from A+ to AAA in the span of a season. Finishing in AAA, he slashed .286/.412/.486/.898 with two doubles and four homers in 19 games.
MLB Pipeline also awarded him a few superlatives; Highest Ceiling, ROTY candidate, Highest Riser, and Humblest Beginning.
Campbell could possibly be the answer the Sox are looking for at second base, that is if they don’t sign Alex Bregman. However, they could work him in, and somehow sign Bregman to a shorter deal, with options in case Campbell doesn’t pan out, and vice versa.
Hopefully Campbell is the real deal, and the Sox have their second basemen of the future for years to come.
