The Indianapolis Colts have an intense quarterback competition taking place.

Both Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones are hoping to revive their careers as former first-round picks, and the Colts have been adamant that the best player will win the job.

With that said, there's a clear scenario that would benefit Indianapolis more, considering general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen could be fighting for their jobs.

In his prediction of some major quarterback battles across the NFL, CBS Sports' Garrett Podell believes it will be Richardson who ultimately wins out.

"It's in general manager Chris Ballard's and head coach Shane Steichen's best interest for Richardson to win the starting job, and he will thanks to being the most talented and tenured guy in the room," Podell wrote.

As Richardson enters his third season, the upside is clearly there given his physical traits. However, he took a major step back during his second campaign, and it's certainly caused some tension when viewing the future of the position in Indy.

But if Richardson can't beat out Jones for the starting gig, then he probably wasn't fit to be the franchise quarterback anyway.

Richardson winning the job gives the Colts the best chances to end their playoff drought in 2025. It also gives the Colts a wider range of outcomes for the upcoming season, but it's difficult to project them as a playoff contender with Jones starting.

The 22-year-old signal-caller faces a make-or-break season, and there's a good chance his performance will have an impact on the entire regime.
