Tyler Shough reportedly in the mix for Giants quarterback search image

The New York Giants are expected to be in the mix for several quarterback prospects during the 2025 NFL Draft, including Louisville's Tyler Shough.

Though there's a chance the Giants use the No. 3 pick on a prospect like Shedeur Sanders, it seems they are leaning toward addressing the position later. If that's the case, New York reportedly has interest in using a Day 2 pick or trading back into Round 1 for a quarterback prospect.

Shough, the seventh-year senior, is reportedly in the mix as a target for the Giants, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

"He's getting some buzz here out of Louisville. He worked out for the New York Giants yesterday. So, this is a team, the Giants, that have been looking at their options where if they can't go quarterback at No. 3, they want to try to get one Day 2 or maybe even move up. Shough appears to be in that mix," Fowler said on Sunday's episode of SportsCenter.

Shough is a polarizing prospect simply considering his age and injury history. He will be 26 years old at the beginning of the season and despite being in college for seven years, he only has one full season of starting experience due to three major season-ending injuries.

On the field, Shough certainly brings some appeal with his size, velocity and arm strength. In 2024, he completed 62.7% of his passes for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions.

With Russell Wilson coming in as the expected starter for 2025 and Jameis Winston assuming the backup role, it doesn't make much sense to use premium draft capital on a 26-year-old rookie who likely won't start until his second NFL season.

Then again, the NFL draft is always full of surprises so this isn't something that can be completely dismissed out of hand.
