The Boston Red Sox have made themselves known as buyers for pitchers this offseason, and seem to have their targets in mind. MLB insider Jeff Passan has an interesting and probable prediction for the Sox’s acquisitions; signing two-time Cy Young Blake Snell and trading for Chicago White Sox All-Star Garrett Crochet.
The Red Sox have already committed to acquiring two aces this offseason, so this prediction isn’t outside the realm of possibility.
Signing Blake Snell would bring them the ace they need, and would scoot everyone down to a more comfortable part of the rotation. Snell also made 20 starts, and posted a 5-3 record, with a 3.12 ERA, and 145 strikeouts.
Crochet would make their rotation amazing. He would become the number two or three, and everyone would go down in the rotation again, making them better than their actual spot. Last season, Crochet posted a 3.58 ERA, a 6-12 record, and 209 strikeouts, which was the seventh-most strikeouts in the MLB.
Both aces are also lefties, which the Sox’s starting rotation had none of last season. With these two, they could have a balanced rotation.
While this isn’t the only avenue the Sox could take, it is one of the good ones. Another is signing two aces and using that trade package for something else, but most likely, it will be used for this.
