After the dust settled from the 2025 NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks weren't done making moves, with the team reportedly agreeing to contracts with a slew of undrafted free agents while also inviting players to their rookie minicamp.
One of those rookie minicamp invites was Louisville defensive tackle Thor Griffith, who, on top of having a great superhero name, tallied 21 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks and one forced fumble in his final collegiate year.
As we combed through an article by CBS Sports analyst Chris Trapasso that ranks the top-seven undrafted free agents, we noticed that Griffith, who also went to Harvard, made the cut. Here's Trapasso's thoughts on the highly-touted UDFA.
"The former Harvard-turned-Louisville product is the consummate overachiever. At times in the ACC a season ago, he looked overwhelmed, simply not large enough to withstand the repeated punishment of an inside run game at that level. And actually, much of that had to do with his tiny wingspan that measured in under 77 inches that equates to right around the sixth percentile at the position," he wrote.
"There are other instances in which Griffith's immense strength -- 42 reps on the bench -- is wildly apparent. He torques blockers out of his path so he can sneak into the intended rushing lane. There are pass-rush flashes, too, because of his first-step quickness, hustle and advancing pass-rush move arsenal."
In 2024, Griffith showed he can do a little bit of everything. On top of his three sacks, the former Harvard star tallied an 84.0 run defense grade for Louisville, according to Pro Football Focus.
"A powerhouse interior defensive lineman, Griffith’s low-cut frame and powerful base allow for good balance through contact," Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote in his scouting report for Griffith. "He has the ability to get under the blocker’s pads and reestablish the line of scrimmage when he gets into the blocker first. He lacks the mass of a run-plugging nose tackle and he’s a linear mover with below average short-area change of direction. He’s more of a pocket pusher than an edge finder as a pass rusher but his ability to create disruptive snaps will be appealing to even-front teams looking for competition inside."
Prior to his one-year stint at Louisville, Griffith showed he has the pass-rush chops during his days at Harvard, where he tallied 13.5 sacks over three years, including five in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
An interior lineman who can stuff the run and also rush the passer isn't easy to find, which is why Griffith is so intriguing. Thanks to Trapasso's ranking, Griffith is someone to keep an eye on during rookie minicamp this month.
