Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro wideout Davante Adams is searching for a new team, and the San Francisco 49ers are reportedly one of his favored destinations.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport said the 49ers “are among teams that either have inquired about the six-time Pro Bowler or are places Adams would be happy landing.”
So, what would the 49ers have to give up in return for Adams’ services? Brandon Aiyuk, who recently signed a four-year, $120 million extension, would be the most likely candidate for a trade.
San Francisco also has an extra third-round draft pick in 2025, giving the 49ers additional draft capital to sweeten the deal.
With $56.7 million in available cap space, most in the National Football League, absorbing Adams’ contract wouldn’t be a problem. "The cost to trade for Adams, at the moment, would be $13.526 million. That number would drop by $968K each week that Adams remains on the Raiders’ roster," said OverTheCap.
Aiyuk has not played up to his past numbers so far this season. He has 13 receptions (25 targets) for 167 yards and no touchdowns through four games. This follows a 2023 season where he was named second-team All-Pro after posting 75 catches for a career-best 1,342 yards and seven TDs.
In any trade, the length of Adams’ contract could play as big a factor as his talent. Adams is in the third year of the five-year, $140 million deal he signed with Las Vegas, and he could potentially void his contract after the 2025 season when his guarantees have been fulfilled.
Sanjesh Singh of NBC Sports says, “An Adams acquisition could give the 49ers a hungry, proven wideout looking for a ring while the Raiders receive a younger cornerstone piece who is tied down for multiple years.”
Though at this point the 49ers are considered a dark horse in the race, it is still a race that they should consider entering.
