Cleveland Brown’s next rising star Shedeur Sanders faced a bit of controversy during the 2025 NFL draft. However, it seems that fans of the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback have his full support.
In a surprising turn of events, Sanders placed No.144 before the Browns selected him in the fifth round. Prior to the draft, fans predicted that he would be the first quarterback taken during the first round -- however, this was not the case.
Sanders wasn’t the only quarterback picked up by the NFL team. The Browns selected former Oregon quarterback Dilon Gabriel 50 picks prior during the third round.
Many fans flocked to social media to express their shock and confusion by Sanders’ selection ranking. Followers of the quarterback began to speculate that a lot more was happening behind the scenes.
NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay reported that Sanders had a lackluster meeting with the New York Giants that may have affected his standing. “Shedeur didn’t have a great interview with Brian Daboll in a private visit. An install package came in. Preparation wasn’t there for it. Got called out on it. Didn’t like that. Brian didn’t appreciate him not liking it,” he shared on The McShay Show on April 24.
Despite this setback, Sanders has risen far above as his jersey sales have skyrocketed. A few days after the draft, the Official NFL Shop listed the top 10 selling jerseys from the 2025 NFL draft where Sanders led in third place.
Fans have rallied behind Sanders and have encouraged others to purchase merchandise to support the player.
