The Kansas City Chiefs are always going to be Super Bowl contenders as long as Patrick Mahomes is around, and that makes them an attractive free-agent destination.

This season, the Chiefs are 10-1, tied with the Detroit Lions for the NFL's best record. However, they haven't looked as invincible as they have in the past, and their roster is only getting more expensive as the Super Bowl core continues to age.

Signing discounted veterans will be key for Kansas City to stay in title contention for years to come. And one of the most important positions for the Chiefs to consider is cornerback, which has been the only notable weakness on their excellent defense this season.

If the Chiefs want to kill two birds with one stone, they could address their corner shortage by nabbing a reliable veteran from their biggest rivals in the AFC.

Buffalo Bills corner Rasul Douglas is in the final season of a three-year, $21 million contract originally signed with the Green Bay Packers. Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report recently predicted that Douglas would sign with Kansas City as a free agent.

"The Chiefs have built their cornerback room around young talents on cheap rookie contracts. That's always nice, but they also struggled to have enough money to keep L'Jarius Sneed, precipitating a trade with the Tennessee Titans this year," Ballentine said.

"It would be nice if they could just keep finding hidden gems at the position in the draft, but that's easier said than done. Talking a veteran like Douglas into coming to Kansas City on a one- or two-year deal would bring some stability to the unit next season."

Douglas, 29, has had a tough year in coverage, allowing a 115.0 passer rating and three touchdowns when targeted. He was excellent last season, though, allowing a 38.6 rating as a member of the Bills. He also won a Super Bowl in his rookie season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Bills recently beat the Chiefs in Buffalo, but Kansas City has had their number in the playoffs, defeating them three straight times in the Mahomes-Josh Allen era. Nabbing Douglas would just be insult to injury, especially if KC gains the upper hand in January once more.
