The Boston Celtics just lost another painful game, this time to a buzzer beater by the Houston Rockets. Fans and critics have been clamoring for a change, with the top way being a trade. Proposed by Boston Celtics on SI’s Matt Levine, this blockbuster three-team trade would do just that. The trade would look like this:
Boston Celtics get: Walker Kessler, Bruce Brown Jr., and Patty Mills
Toronto Raptors get: Jordan Clarkson, Taylor Hendricks, and a 2026 second-rounder
Utah Jazz get: Kristaps Porzingis, a 2025 first-rounder, a 2031 first-rounder, and a 2026 second-rounder
This trade benefits everyone. The Celtics get an available rising star center who’s cheap, and two vets to come off the bench and provide defense, leadership and shooting. The Raptors get a veteran scoring guard in Clarkson to pair with Scottie Barnes and Gradey Dick, and get a player with potential in Hendricks. Finally, the rebuilding Jazz get a ton of picks, and Porzingis, who they can flip into more picks by trading with a contender.
While the Celtics lose Porzingis, his unavailability won’t be missed, and will be replaced with constant availability and talent in Kessler, along bench upgrades, all for cheap. HOpefully the Celtics consider this trade, as it could be the one to lock them in for a second NBA Finals trip in two seasons.
