Innie or outie? Knicks fans get ‘Severed’ in surreal promo with Ben Stiller image

Blurring the line between court and cubicle, the New York Knicks dropped a surreal playoff hype video just before tipping off their 2025 postseason run.

For the dystopian promo, the Knicks teamed up with Ben Stiller and the creators of Apple TV+’s mind-bending series “Severance."

The team came out strong, taking Game 1 of their first-round matchup against the Detroit Pistons. After a tough Game 2 loss that evened the series to 1-1, some fans are hoping there’s still a little Lumon magic left heading into Thursday’s pivotal Game 3.

This video is mysterious and important

Knicks center "The Big Bodega" Karl-Anthony Towns, admittedly a huge fan of the series, appears in the video, which feels less like a typical NBA spot and more like a trippy call to action, with the ultimate question posed to viewers: are you an innie or an outie?

Towns posted the video to his X account, quickly garnering thousands of views and captioning it, "Mysterious and important."

"I hope they get a music dance experience in several weeks," one follower responded, while another proposed they "build a statue of Ben Stiller in New York."

In his post, Towns tagged Stiller, who narrates the promo.

"It's that time. We've heard it all before," Stiller says in the video. "Same story, different year. The history, the expectations. This place, this city. Out there, it's a game in here, it's everything. So are you out? Or are you in?"

In a play on the show's infamous expression, "Praise Kier" — a reference to the founder of  Lumon Industries, Kier Eagan — Stiller retweeted the video to his own X account, with the caption, "Praise @KarlTowns LETS GO #KNICKS."

Towns has made his passion for "Severance" clear. In February, he gave a shoutout to Stiller on X, posting, "Severance really is that good."

For his part, Stiller has proven his devotion to the Knicks. As a presenter at the 2025 Oscars on May 2 — which coincided with the Knicks overtime win against Miami — Stiller's mind, like a severed employee, was clearly in two places as he took a moment to share, “KNICKS WIN” on his X account, in a post that quickly went viral

Later, during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Stiller reportedly admitted he wasn’t necessarily “invested” in the awards show, which made it easy to be “distracted” by the Knicks.
