The Boston Celtics look poised to repeat as NBA champions, but their roster is not without flaws.

In particular, the Celtics don’t have a ton of wing depth other than sharpshooter Sam Hauser behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Boston could benefit from acquiring another wing before February’s deadline — someone with veteran experience, athleticism, and an emphasis on defense.

Conveniently for the Celtics, a player of that description currently playing for the New Orleans Pelicans promises to be available on the trade market this winter, and not for a high price.

He also happens to be a former Celtic.

On Monday, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz suggested that Boston could re-acquire 31-year-old hyper-athletic wing Javonte Green in a deal with New Orleans.

“The Boston Celtics will need to keep their trade target list fairly modest given that this team is already $7.6 million above the second luxury-tax apron,” Swartz said.

“Green, 31, is a versatile and athletic wing who's making just over $2 million this season and should be available from the injury-ravaged Pelicans. He's averaging 6.3 points and has made 34.3 percent of his threes.”

If the Celtics are eyeing Green, they should make a move sooner rather than later. Green is sure to have other suitors, not excluding the Golden State Warriors.

Should Boston’s GM Brad Stevens prepare an offer to bring back Green?
