That’s one.
The San Francisco 49ers have gotten one of the biggest pieces back into the fold. After a “hold-in” that lasted throughout training camp and the entire preseason, the 49ers have reached an agreement with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The 2023 All-Pro gets a four-year, $120 million extension, per Ian Rapoport.
It’s a major payday for Aiyuk, 26, who gets $76 million guaranteed with $47 million coming between now and April 1, 2025.
Rapoport characterized the deal as “Massive.”
Aiyuk missed practice on Thursday afternoon, as 49ers general manager John Lynch gave no indication that talks between the front office and Aiyuk’s agent, Ryan Williams were progressing. “When you’ve got some of your better players, two of them in particular that aren’t out there, and that’s your job, you take a lot of pride in that,” Lynch said of Aiyuk and star left tackle Trent Williams.
“We’ll find a way to put the best squad out there and I’m really happy with where this team is at and what we do have to offer. The players out here that have been here are working really hard. We’ve got a lot of love for the two guys that aren’t, and we’ll continue to work on that to try to bring that to a resolution.”
Now they have. In Aiyuk’s case anyway. Williams has yet to report to the 49ers all offseason as he seeks to negotiate his contract as well. The amount of guaranteed money that Aiyuk received in his deal will have a big impact on those talks.
After a long offseason that saw Brandon Aiyuk ask for a new contract, eventually demand a trade and negotiate with multiple suitors, the 49ers finally have their leading receiver in the locker room.
Now, it’s Williams’ turn.
