MLB insider questions if Red Sox are serious about pursuing superstar free agent image

The Boston Red Sox are hot and heavy in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, and the Baseball Tonight podcast with Buster Olney discussed how serious they were in pursuing him. Specifically, MLB insider Jeff Passan can’t help but think about the half-decade of the Sox not spending.

“With the Red Sox, I wonder... And I wonder because the Red Sox just haven’t spent in recent years. So suddenly, have they found religion? Have they understood that yeah, carrying a payroll near the CBT is worth doing? Particularly when Kristian Campbell, Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, and Kyle Teel are all going to be making $800k a year, depending how they play their callups, for the next three or four seasons, you’re going to have bargains all around that diamond”.

While Passan is skeptical, as are most fans, the Sox leadership has committed to saying they are ready to go over the CBT to make playoff runs for at least the next half-decade

Currently, the Sox are pursuing multiple aces, and hitters that would cost them hundreds of millions of dollars, but put them in a position to win.

Hopefully, the Sox get who they want and bring their franchise back to the glory days of the mid-2000s to the late 2010s.
