The Dallas Mavericks have a ton of changes they need to make this offseason, especially due to the fact they didn’t even make the playoffs after making the NBA Finals last year.
Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus believes something they could do to improve is get another guard to support Kyrie Irving when he returns, but from an unexpected location, the Los Angeles Lakers. In return, they would send one of their big men in Daniel Gafford.
“The Mavericks have significant size with Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, Dwight Powell, P.J. Washington and Gafford,” Pincus wrote. “They need help at guard since Kyrie Irving is out with a knee injury until at least December or January (optimistically). While the Lakers may not be able to deliver that directly to Dallas, a multi-team deal could be the answer.”
Gafford would be nice for the Lakers because it gives Luka Doncic a former teammate he had a connection with, and a true starting center, which the Lakers have needed since 2020. As for the Mavs, they could pick from Gabe Vincent, Jordan Goodwin, and Shake Milton for a guard. Or, if it does become a multi-team deal, try and find a way to get Dalton Knecht.
Would this trade even be considered? Probably not. With how Mavs GM Nico Harrison handled the Doncic trade, and the state of the front office and fanbase, there’s no way the Mavs make another deal with the Lakers unless it’s somehow objectively a fleece by the Mavs.
