The best of the SEC meet on the floor Friday for an early season gymnastics competition. No. 2 LSU hosts No. 7 Florida in a meeting between two of the top programs in the nation.
In last year's regular-season meeting, the Gators edged out the Tigers by two-tenths of a point. LSU got its revenge, though, beating out Florida, Utah and Cal in the national championship to claim the program's first title.
The season is certainly young, but teams still need to execute and continue on the right foot.
In last week's Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad, the Tigers scored a huge 197.650 in their second meet of the season. Freshman Kailin Chio was a star, earning a 39.625 in the all-around to tie with teammate Aleah Finnegan for second. But the biggest question this week is if senior star Haleigh Bryant will be back after missing the season-opener with an injury.
In its season opener last week, Florida recorded a 196.675 to beat Michigan State, Nebraska and Northern Illinois. The Gators are hoping this is their year after coming up short in the last four championship meets, and they're looking good so far. Paris Olympic alternate Leanne Wong won the all-around last week with a 39.725, and senior Sloane Blakely followed up her teammate with a second-place finish.
