Ron Washington sends surprising message to team after Angels' season reaches new low image

Things are getting really bad for the Angels this season. The team has lost 12 of 12 of 16 games and their season seems to reach a new low every day.

Ron Washington, though, had a more upbeat message for his team after another loss.

“The at-bats were better, more competitive,” Washington said to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. “We were able to put some runs on the board in back-to-back innings, something that we haven’t done in a while. We kept the line going, and we still had an opportunity to tie that ball game, but it just didn’t happen.

It would be easy for Washington to get down on his team, especially with their monumental skid of late. Still, its nice to see the halos skipper have a more upbeat message for his team.

The team lost on Tuesday largely due to a three-run homer from Jorge Polanco off of starter Jack Kochanowicz.

"Polanco got him there in the second and after that, he settled down, and he started throwing the ball extremely well,” Washington said. “He got us into the sixth inning again. He gave us six innings of three-run ball. You take that. But tonight was Polanco’s night. He drove in all five runs.”

Logan O’Hoppe hit a solo homer on Tuesday which helped the Angels click into gear offensively.

But it was not enough.

Per Fletcher  — “Over the last 16 games, the Angels have scored 38 runs, an average of 2.4 per game.”

That’s not good at all — it'll be interesting to see if that trend changes with Washington’s calming message.
