76ers president reveals where Philadelphia stands on retaining breakout star Quentin Grimes image

The 2025 season is officially over for the Philadelphia 76ers. In all fairness, it’s been pretty much finished for a while. Once Joel Embiid and Paul George were out for the season, that killed a season that was already dying because of their extended absences.

So now comes the offseason. Perhaps the Sixers’ biggest priority this offseason is re-signing Quentin Grimes, who broke out with the Sixers. During his exit press conference, President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey discussed where things are with re-signing Grimes.

Morey voiced his confidence in the Sixers’ re-signing Grimes, as, per The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey, “Morey said the Sixers positioned themselves to bring Quentin Grimes back in free agency.”

Grimes put up some of his best numbers as a pro in his half-season for the Sixers. In 27 games, Grimes averaged 22.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists while shooting 47.7% and 38.9% from three. It may have only been half a season, but Grimes proved he’s a keeper.

Two things work in the Sixers’ favor with keeping Grimes. One, he’s a restricted free agent, meaning they can match any offer sheet he gets in the offseason. Two, not many teams have much cap room this offseason, so it would be hard to see one pry Grimes away from Philadelphia.

In a season where so much went wrong for the Sixers, Grimes gave them a glimmer of hope that all is not lost for them. As long as the Sixers can bring him back on a reasonable extension, Grimes could play a role in the team returning to the contender it once was.
