During the Denver Broncos' 29-19 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, quarterback Bo Nix got his name into the team record books. This time, he broke a record that has stood for nearly 60 years.
With two touchdown passes against the Raiders, Nix now has 16 on the season. That breaks the team's all-time record for touchdown passes in a season by a rookie, and you could take a lot of guesses and likely not choose the guy who held the record.
John Elway only had seven touchdown passes as a rookie in 1983. Instead, the record of 14 touchdown passes by a rookie dates back to the AFL days. Marlin Briscoe threw 14 touchdown passes in 1968.
What is most interesting about Briscoe's days in Denver is that he was only on the team for that '68 season. He went to the Buffalo Bills in 1969 and was turned into a wide receiver. He never threw another touchdown pass in his entire career.
Nix is having the best rookie season a quarterback has ever had in Denver. He already broke the record for most passing yards in a season for a Broncos rookie, which was set back in 1963 by Mickey Slaughter. His 1,689 yards were surpassed by Nix during the Broncos' Week 9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Bo Nix is setting history as a rookie for the Broncos
It's been a year of history being made for the Broncos with Nix. He became the first rookie quarterback to start in Week 1 for the team since Elway in 1983 and he seems to set a new mark each week.
It has been said that the main goal for the Broncos this season was to determine if Nix was going to be the future of the franchise and through 12 games, that has been answered with a resounding yes.
There is a lot for Broncos fans to be excited about right now and it all starts with No. 10.
