One familiar face will take center stage at this year's Winter Cup in Louisville — but another will have to wait for her return to the spotlight.
Reigning Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee, 20, is back on the mat for the first time since September, when she withdrew from the Team USA world championships selection event due to a kidney issue. She participated in a recent U.S. training camp, and the Winter Cup marks her return to competition.
Gabby Douglas, though, had to postpone her return after testing positive for COVID-19.
The 2012 Olympic all-around champion has not competed since the 2016 Summer Games, but she plans to make a run at the 2024 Games in Paris. Douglas, 28, intended to make her comeback with the floor competition at the Winter Cup, but she is sidelined due to illness, she announced Thursday.
Without Douglas, all eyes at the competition will turn to Lee. Here's what you need to know to follow along with the reigning Olympic champion as she competes during the 2024 Winter Cup.
