Chargers' Omarion Hampton gets bad news just a week into his rookie NFL tenure image

NFL rookies are often in a tough spot.

Specifically, when it comes to uniform numbers. That's the position Omarion Hampton found himself in as the Chargers' newest running back out of North Carolina.

Hampton wore the number 28 at UNC.

The Chargers already have a returning 28, Hassan Haskins.

Often, the highly touted rookie winds up with the number, but it seems like Haskins stood firm.

Hampton was announced as No. 8 for the Chargers instead.

It's not crucial, and frankly, the single-digit numbers look a little cooler.

But Hampton likely felt attached to 28 and will take a bit to get used to the new one.

He'll be more concerned with getting on the field.

L.A. returns Haskins and Kimani Vidal and signed Najee Harris. It's a crowded running back room.

But Hampton was the best RB in the ACC each of the past two seasons, so he'll make his claim for playing time, as well.

He'll just do it with one less numeral on his back.
