The most prestigious weekend in horse racing will kick off the month of May.
While the main event on the schedule at Churchill Downs is the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, the Kentucky Oaks remains one of the best races of the year. It precedes the Derby and will take place on Friday on the same track.
The Oaks is an annual competition for 3-year-old fillies, and this year's class is a strong group. Good Cheer is the favorite entering the race (6-5) followed by La Cara (6-1) and Quietside (8-1).
Good Cheer, trained by Brad H. Cox, is undefeated through six career races. She will look to become the first unbeaten filly to win the Kentucky Oaks since 2021.
