It’s that time of year when college superstars transform into potential future NFL stars. Some players who dominate in college don’t always pan out in the pros, while others, like Tom Brady, who were drafted later, end up becoming some of the best players to ever play in the NFL.
This is what Shedeur Sanders is hoping for, as he has gone from being a projected first-round pick to a potential day-three pick—if he is drafted at all, though many believe he will be. Sanders sliding past the second or third round wasn’t expected by anyone, leaving many baffled. His teammate, Travis Hunter, was drafted where he was projected, and there’s a clear plan in place for his career.
“We’ll have a plan right now for him to primarily play on offense, while also learning the defensive system and practicing on that side of the ball throughout this offseason program,” said Liam Coen.
However, Sanders must be having a million thoughts racing through his head, especially after watching three quarterbacks get drafted ahead of him on night two. The Cleveland Browns selected Dillon Gabriel over him. Browns GM Andrew Berry explained why.
“What he has done throughout his college career is impressive. He’s a really good quarterback and an impressive young man. Sometimes fit comes into play, and there are still four more rounds in the draft. It’s less about where you get picked and more about what you do after you get picked. He’s going to find himself in a really good spot,” Berry said.
The decision to go with Gabriel was simply a matter of fit. However, Stephen A. Smith believes there’s more to the story of Sanders before the draft started.

It’s gotten so bad for Sanders that he’s being advised to figure out a possibility of returning to college for another season.
