After a tumultuous 5-12 season and third-place finish in the AFC East that led to complete overhauls of the coaching staff and front office, the New York Jets entered this offseason with the goal of improving for 2025.
To accomplish that goal, New York released two of their most important players, cutting quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams. They also brought in some talent in free agency, including quarterback Justin Fields.
However, with a new regime, there's always a chance that other players are cast off and either outright released or traded to another team for some sort of return. And, recently, many have been wondering if running back Breece Hall may find himself in that group.
In fact, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox predicted that the Jets will send Hall to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2025 third-round pick (No. 76 overall) during the upcoming 2025 NFL draft.
Hall, 23, played at Iowa State from 2019-21, earning All-Big 12 honors thrice and All-American honors twice during his time with the Cyclones.
New York took Hall in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft and made him a starter right away. Despite missing some time in his rookie season due to a torn ACL, Hall has been productive in his three professional seasons, rushing for 2,333 yards and 14 touchdowns on 4.6 yards per carry and catching 152 passes for an additional 1,292 yards and eight scores.

Hall saw a bit of a drop in his efficiency last season, as he rushed for 876 yards and five touchdowns on 4.2 yards per attempt (falling from 5.8 as a rookie and 4.5 in 2023). Pro Football Focus actually gave him a 62.0 overall grade for his performance, ranking him 40th out of 47 qualified running backs. He also earned a 68.7 rushing grade (37th) and a 47.5 receiving grade (42nd).
2025 is the final year of Hall's rookie deal, and New York must decide if they'll keep him around beyond this season or allow him to walk at the end. However, they could move on from him now, get something of value back, and address the position in the draft or free agency.
Dallas is always looking for stars and after rushing for just 100.3 yards per game in 2024 (27th), a new running back could really help the offense. They've already brought in Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders this offseason, so adding Hall may be a long shot, but he also has the highest ceiling of the three, so it may be worth it.
