The Miami Dolphins didn't do much to address the secondary in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Despite using a fifth-round pick on Dante Trader Jr., the safety position in Miami raises a lot of questions regarding the depth chart.
After losing Jevon Holland in free agency, the Dolphins made a pair of low-key signings this offseason, adding Ifeatu Melifonwu and Ashtyn Davis.
That tandem is currently the starting pair in Miami's defensive backfield, but the Dolphins were also linked as a potential landing spot for Atlanta Falcons star free agent Justin Simmons, per Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report.
"While Simmons may not garner serious interest from rebuilding teams like Atlanta, teams that believe they can contend and need help on the back end should have him on their radar," Knox wrote.
The Dolphins already have plans to trade star cornerback Jalen Ramsey so it's fair to wonder how they view themselves and the direction they're going.
Simmons, a two-time Pro Bowler, allowed an 81.9 passer rating and 6.2 yards per target in 2024. He's 31 years old, but he's still a valuable asset to have in the secondary.
Spotrac currently projects Simmons to land a one-year, $5.8 million deal so if Miami believes they have a contender, it's a move that could pay off.
