McDavid struck 32 seconds into the second OT period, beating Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger from in close on a redirect following a great pass from defenseman Evan Bouchard.

Dallas limited Edmonton, the highest shot-producing team in the playoffs, to just three shots in the first period. But the Oilers picked up the pace in the second. 

Leon Draisaitl extended his point-scoring streak to 13 games for the Oilers. Draisaitl, who scored Edmonton's first goal less than a minute into the second period, leads all NHL players with 25 playoff points (nine goals, 16 assists) in 13 games.

Zach Hyman extended Edmonton's lead to 2-0 in the second period on this terrific tally.

Rewatching the Hyman goal, it might be the best of his 66 this season. When McDavid is off to the races and you break up the pass, you deserve to not allow a goal. Hyman just muscled his way through two people and scored anyway

Edmonton goalie Stuart Skinner has been up and down in the playoffs, but he turned in a gem of a performance in Game 1. Skinner stopped 31 of 33 shots on goal.

Of the four remaining playoff teams, the Oilers own the best power play after converting on more than 36% of their chances with the man advantage.

Dallas Stars betting trends

Remarkably, Dallas has now lost Game 1 in its last seven playoff series. Tyler Seguin scored both goals for the Stars in a losing cause. He also recorded a team-high six shots on goal. 

Dallas went 0-for-5 on the power play in the opener. The Stars nearly ended the game with Edmonton serving a double minor penalty in the first overtime. Jason Robertson first hit the right post and then the left post before the penalty was killed off. 

The Stars were again without a key cog in Game 1. Center Roope Hintz, who potted 30 goals in the regular season, missed his third straight game with an upper body injury. 

Fellow center Wyatt Johnston leads Dallas with seven goals in the postseason. Johnson, in his second full NHL season with the Stars, didn't turn 21 until earlier this month.

Oettinger rates the edge in goal over Skinner, and that could be a key in determining who moves on to represent the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Finals. Oettinger turned away 35 of 38 shots in Game 1 including this incredible save against McDavid.

Oilers vs. Stars Game 2 prediction

Dallas has displayed an amazing ability to come back from early deficits. The Stars went down 2-0 in the first round against the Golden Knights, and they also trailed the Avalanche 1-0 to begin that series. Game 2 provides another bounce-back opportunity against the Oilers and we expect the Stars to be up to that task.
