Top-seeded Texas takes on No. 8 Stanford in the first round of the Women's College World Series as both teams seek their first national title in program history.
The Longhorns entered the tournament with the first No. 1 seed in school history and coasted through the Austin regional. Then they faced Texas A&M in their Super Regional, pushing the series to a third game after dropping the first matchup. Texas came out on top, 6-5, in a narrow victory to reach the WCWS for the second time since 2013.
Stanford came out of their regional unscathed despite being pushed to the brink by Cal State Fullerton. The Cardinal then went three games against LSU in the Super Regional, beating out the Tigers in the third matchup, 8-0, in a six-inning stomp.
Texas and Stanford last played Feb. 24, 2024, when the Cardinal came out on top, 4-3. They also played on Feb. 16, when Texas took home the win, 9-2. Whether the No. 1 Longhorns will live up to their seeding is yet to be determined, and their first obstacle will not be easy to overcome.
