Colorado's Kaidon Salter vs. Juju Lewis battle to replace QB Shedeur Sanders gets key spring game update image

Shedeur Sanders had his number retired this weekend at Colorado's spring game.

It was a pertinent reminder for the 2025 Buffaloes that they need to figure out their quarterback battle to try and not skip a beat from their star passer.

Colorado has two great options: Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and 5-star freshman Juju Lewis.

It's going to be a big decision for Deion Sanders that comes under plenty of scrutiny.

In the spring game, Salter took the lead in the battle, according to Sports Illustrated.

He completed a big-time third-and-22 pass for a first down early on, then threw a 22-yard touchdown to Joseph Williams.

Here's how SI described the battle:

"Lewis flashed his upside in extended reps, showing why many consider him to be the future of the program. But Salter’s command of the offense and veteran presence stood out—and may give him the edge heading into summer."

They summed it up that, "The moment didn't feel too big" for Salter.

Salter spoke about the jersey retirement ceremony for Sanders and Travis Hunter.

“That was Shedeur and Travis’ accomplishments,” Salter said. “I’m not looking to get my jersey retired at the end of the season—I’m looking to get us to a Big 12 Championship and get to the playoffs—and just have a fun and amazing season.”

It's certainly a good problem to have for Colorado.

The long-time college quarterback with great productivity vs. the high-upside future of the program. It's tough to go wrong.
