Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Shohei Ohtani took to social media to announce the birth of his first child with wife Mamiko, a baby girl. With his heartfelt words, he included a photo of the newborn — but only her tiny feet.
“I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter,” Ohtani, 30, posted to Instagram on Saturday, April 19. “To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents.” For the caption, he ran only emojis of a foot and paw prints — the image included a photo of the baseball icon’s dog, Decoy.
Fans and MLB insiders melted.
“Can’t wait to meet the newest Dodger,” wrote the official team account. MLB agreed: “Congrats Shohei and Mamiko!” Added Dodgers reporter Kirsten Watson, “Congratulations.”
“Dodgers just signed her — wow,” joked one analyst. “Los Angeles loves the Ohtani family, and we wish you nothing but blessings and health,” commented one local fan. “GIRL DAD.” Added another, “Everyone is sending love your way.”
Acknowledging the family’s dog, one follower quipped, “Why is everyone forgetting to congratulate Decoy?”

Ohtani, who originally hails from the Japanese city of Iwate, signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers in December 2023. The athlete announced that he had married in February 2024, but at first declined to identify his wife. A month later, he revealed it was Mamiko Tanaka, a former professional basketball player.
The LA Dodgers are the reigning World Series champions.
