The Philadelphia 76ers are preparing for an offseason that could change the landscape of the franchise. With one of the worst records in the NBA, they should be in a good position to secure a top-five draft pick.
Finishing a season that was derailed by injuries can always be tough for a franchise to overcome. Especially, without drastic moves being made by the front office. Through it all, NBA insider Marc Stein believes both Daryl Morey and coach Nick Nurse's jobs are safe.
"A rather strong indication that Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey and coach Nick Nurse are both safe after Philadelphia's own 24-win nightmare campaign riddled with injuries: Morey and Nurse are scheduled to meet with local reporters together Sunday after the Sixers' season finale against Chicago," Stein wrote.
Not many coaches are retained after a 24-win season, but in Nurse's case it is possibly a bit justified. If the blow sustained from Joel Embiid's knee issues this season wasn't enough, Paul George dealt with lingering injuries as well.
Morey has spent the past 20-plus years in the NBA and has put together an honorable resume. This includes winning the NBA Executive of the Year in the 2017-18 season with the Houston Rockets. Since becoming the team president for the 76ers in 2020, Philadelphia hasn't made it past the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals and have been through two head coaches.
In two seasons with the 76ers, Nurse hasn't been able to come close to matching the success he had with the Toronto Raptors as coach. The former Coach of the Year led Philadelphia to the playoffs last season just to be eliminated in the first round. This season, it wasn't his fault since there were so many injuries.

Both Morey and Nurse haven't had enough time with the team to see the results of their labor. Especially, for coach Nurse. It's hard enough to find quality head coaches and with Nurse's resume it's hard to imagine a better candidate available on the market. This offseason and next season will be imperative for both Morey and Nurse to give the 76ers a reason to want to keep them.
