The Dallas Cowboys quarterback room will likely feature Dak Prescott and Joe Milton III this season. The Cowboys made a trade to get Milton and upgrade their backup quarterback position.
Over the years, the Cowboys have gone through plenty of backup quarterbacks. Last year, Cooper Rush filled the void when Prescott was hurt. This was not the first time Prescott missed a majority of the season. In 2020, he played just five games. Back then, Ben DiNucci was called on to help replace him.
However, DiNucci has not played in an NFL game since 2020. Since then, he has been on the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills before he signed to the New Orleans Saints practice squad last year. He signed a future/reserve deal with the Saints in January. However, he just announced he has been released, but is not giving up on playing in the NFL.
"The NFL is a tough business," DiNucci wrote on X. "Always has been and always will be. Got released by the Saints this morning. Control what I can control and go back to work."
DiNucci was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, his opportunities to see the field have been rare. Despite that, he is still committed to working hard to try and get back on a team. He has seen preseason action and has 812 passing yards and seven passing touchdowns in 12 preseason games over the last four seasons.

The 28-year-old's best chance at getting on a team right now is likely through the practice squad. Most teams already have their quarterback situations solidified, but having DiNucci on the practice squad would give a team insurance in case of an injury. The Saints likely decided to move on from DiNucci after they drafted Tyler Shough in the NFL Draft.
