Giants sent multiple trade offers to Titans for top draft pick, per insider image

The New York Giants can say they tried, at least.

Given the franchise's obvious need to address the long-term view at the quarterback position, the front office attempted to make a blockbuster move for the No. 1 overall pick.

The Tennessee Titans never budged, though, despite initial claims about being open to trading away the top pick.

New York's failure to land the No. 1 pick wasn't due to a lack of effort, though.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported Wednesday morning that the Giants made persistent attempts to acquire the top overall selection.

"The New York Giants called the Tennessee Titans multiple times with offers to move up to the No. 1 pick. They were the most aggressive of the teams that reached out to new Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi," Russini wrote.

This isn't the first time Giants general manager Joe Schoen tried — and failed — to trade up in the draft for a quarterback prospect. New York attempted to trade up to the No. 3 pick during the 2024 NFL Draft in order to land Drake Maye.

Instead, the New England Patriots rejected the offer and took Maye for themselves. The Giants, who could have pivoted to J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix or Bo Nix, ultimately stayed put at No. 6 to draft Malik Nabers.

The Giants are still expected to take a quarterback prospect at some point during the upcoming weekend.

Though they ultimately failed to bring Cam Ward to the Meadowlands, it wasn't for a lack of trying.
