The Boston Red Sox are currently heading to arbitration talks with their breakout star of 2024, Jarren Duran. This does call for concern, since they are going to said hearing over only $500 thousand dollars, which in baseball money is practically nothing. Former AL MVP Josh Donaldson believes there could potentially be adverse effects that stem from arbitration.
“It can get nasty…at the end of the day, is it worth pissing your guy off for half a million or do you want to make him feel valued by the organization? Hopefully for his sake, and their sake, they’ll get something done”.
Duran’s past season was nothing short of spectacular. He finished the season slashing .285/.342/.492/.834 with 21 homers, led the league in doubles and triples with 48 and 14 respectively, and led his team with 34 stolen bases.
The fact the Sox are willing to go to arbitration over this amount of money is crazy. If arbitration takes a bad turn, Duran might try and force his way out. Then again, the Sox have Roman Anthony to take his place, but should they really be pushing away a star of this caliber for so little money? Definitely not.
Hopefully the Sox and Duran come to an agreement where both sides are happy, and there are no adverse effects.
