Despite a contest with limited action, Canelo Alvarez beat William Scull to become a two-time undisputed champion at super middleweight.

After, it was announced he will fight Terence Crawford at 168 on September 12.

Canelo (63-2-2) knew coming into the fight Scull (23-1) had the edge in height and reach. However, that did not stop him from landing monster body shots when he could. The last half of that line is important, as Scull danced around the ring, not allowing Canelo to land for volume. He himself did not provide anything of substance either. However, to a certain degree, it was a classic Canelo affair.

Canelo forced Scull by the ropes at certain points, landing body shots. He jabbed away and landed combinations to the chest of Scull. While the commentary team was bashing Scull for not doing anything of substance, Daniel Jacobs, a former Canelo opponent, pointed out it takes two to tango, and Canelo didn't cut the ring off.

The judges scored the fight for Canelo, 115-113, 116-112, and 119-109. Per CompuBox, Canelo landed 56 of 152 shots (36.8%), while Scull landed 55 of 293 (18.8%). Canelo only landed double-digit shots once, in the final round. They combined to land 445 punches, the fewest in a twelve-round fight in CompuBox history.

Canelo has now won six straight heading into the Crawford fight.

The co-main event was either fair or controversial, depending on how you scored it. Badou Jack and Norair Mikaeljan hadn't fought since 2023. They competed for the WBC cruiserweight title, and Jack won via majority decision.

Mikaeljan landed for volume, connecting with 153 of 670 shots, while Jack landed 122 of 369 shots. Mikaeljan had a 106-89 edge in power landed. However, Jack, who has now won seven straight, showcased power that favored him.

Jack looks to face champions Jai Opetaia or Gilberto Ramirez, who must win their upcoming bouts to continue the path to undisputed.

Jaime Munguia exorcised his demons by beating Bruno Surace in a rematch from the 2024 Upset of the Year. Working with Canelo's longtime trainer, Eddy Reynoso, Munguia returned to his winning ways by using hooks and jabs to push Surace back. He looked like a complete fighter, one that wasn't outmatched.

Munguia landed 105 of 367 punches, while Surace landed 64 of 292. The former is back in the mix at 168. Should there be a trilogy fight? Or will Munguia get fights against the division's elite?

One of the most surprising outcomes was Efe Ajagba and Martin Bakole fighting to a draw.  Ajagba played it safe through the fight. Ajagba landed 190 of 451 shots, while Bakole landed 145 of 460. Bakole picked up the pace in the last few rounds to sway the judges.

It was a good effort from Bakole, who came off a brutal loss in a last-minute affair against Joseph Parker a few months back.
