The New York Giants have mostly received praise for their haul in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The biggest question mark surrounding New York's selections has been about the decision to trade back into the first round for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.

While the Giants certainly needed to establish a new direction at the quarterback position, Pro Football Focus believes that move was one of the biggest reaches in the entire draft.

"After selecting Abdul Carter with the third overall selection, the Giants jumped back into the first round to draft a quarterback. Some thought it could be Shedeur Sanders, but New York landed on Jaxson Dart. While highly productive (91.9 PFF passing grade in 2024), Dart is very raw, as the system he played in at Ole Miss doesn’t translate very well to the NFL. Luckily for Dart, he doesn’t need to start right away after the Giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason," PFF wrote.

Taken at No. 25 overall following a trade with the Houston Texans, Dart was ranked as the No. 131 overall prospect on PFF's big board.

The Giants plan to bring Dart along slowly as he acclimates to the NFL. Being able to sit behind Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston should help that process.

However, there's no guarantee that general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll will be around to see the fruits of Dart's development whenever he does get on the field.

New York needed to come away with a quarterback prospect in this draft, and they decided on taking an option with upside.

Whether Dart will ever reach his potential remains to be seen, but this move will be under a microscope for a while.
