Injuries always happen.
It’s a reality of the sport, and unfortunately the Red Sox will have to do without Tristan Casas, who suffered a ruptured patellar tendon and is out for the remainder of the 2025 season.
With that unfortunate fact, Boston is being rumored to sign a former rival, Anthony Rizzo to fill the void.
"I'll give you another name too", Rosenthal said. "This guy's not playing, but he's out there. Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo remains a free agent, and I'm quite certain it will take him some time to get into shape, but again this is a season-ending injury to Casas, and who knows they might want to take a shot along those lines."
The Red Sox do not have much depth to replace Casas, and signing Rizzo might be their best option.
Rizzo hit 32 home runs for the Yankees in 2022 and appeared in last year’s world series — he’s also an incredible infielder with a great glove.

Keagan Stiefel of NESN also linked the former Cubs slugger with Boston.
“Rizzo isn’t anywhere close to being what he was back in the day, but he did play every day for a team that just made it to the World Series. Boston probably wants someone who has swung a bat within the calendar year, though,” Stiefel wrote recently.
Rizzo was traded from Boston to the San Diego Padres before making his MLB debut.
Rizzo had an 82 OPS+ last year in limited action and a 94 OPS+ the season before. He’s not an incredible option, but he’s a legit big-leaguer that could help the Red Sox improve.
