The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to extend their dynasty in 2025. While last season ended in disappointment, the franchise won its third straight AFC title and has a core that can still compete at the highest level.

The center of that core has been quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce. The two future Hall-of-Famers have made up one of the best duos in NFL history and are breaking records every season now. Kelce is the older of the two, at 35, and, although there was speculation he might retire after last season, there is now growing belief that the 10-time Pro Bowler could still be playing beyond next season.

That bit of news is great for the Chiefs’ organization, but the star tight end’s contract is set to expire at the end of 2025. And San Francisco 49ers’ George Kittle just completely reshaped the market for the tight end position with his $76.4 million contract extension that includes $40 million guaranteed.

According to FanSided content director Mark Powell, that deal gives Kelce a potential “blueprint” to follow should he choose to extend his career beyond this coming season. Kittle is just 31 years old and has not seen a decline in his production like the Chiefs’ tight end has over the past few seasons. However, Kelce is still one of the best pass-catchers at his position and an essential part of his franchise’s offense.

Overall, it might be just one last ride for the Mahomes-Kelce duo. However, if it isn’t, the Chiefs, with their limited cap space, could find themselves in a financial pickle unless their legendary tight end chooses to give them a bit of a discount.
