Dodgers trade pitch lands $56 million ace in LA after Tyler Glasnow injury image

Coming into the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers figured to have one of the deepest starting rotations in baseball. However, injuries could force them to make a trade.

Blake Snell is on the injured list. Shohei Ohtani and Clayton Kershaw still haven't taken the mound for the Dodgers this year. Now, Tyler Glasnow is on the injured list as well. The Dodgers could start exploring the trade market if they feel that their rotation cannot make it through October. Newsweek's Zach Pressnell urged the team to trade for Sandy Alcántara of the Miami Marlins.

"The Dodgers could begin pursuing Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcántara in a blockbuster trade," wrote Pressnell. "Alcántara hasn't been great this season, but it's his first few starts back on the mound after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Once he finds his stride, he could return to his former Cy Young-caliber self. The Dodgers could package prospects like James Outman, Dalton Rushing, Justin Wrobleski or Bobby Miller in a deal for Alcántara. They definitely have the young pieces to get a deal done."

Last season, injuries forced the Dodgers to trade for Jack Flaherty. He was a key player for them, but he signed with the Detroit Tigers in free agency. However, Alcántara would be more than a rental.

He signed a five-year, $56 million deal in 2021 and has a club option for 2027. He could be another elite arm for the Dodgers moving forward. He missed all of 2024 and has struggled so far this season. However, he won the National League Cy Young Award in 2022 when he led baseball in innings pitched and complete games.

The Dodgers have invested too much into the season to let it slip away because of injuries. If injuries continue to pile up, the Dodgers could become active near the trade deadline.
