Now that the NFL Draft is over, several players fresh out of college are on rosters, competing for a spot. Shedeur Sanders believed he was going to be the next quarterback after what he felt was a strong interview.

“I understand the mindset and why they win a lot. … What he (Mike Tomlin) preaches from the top down is like my dad. … It was a 10,” Sanders said.

However, like several other teams, the Steelers passed on him for various reasons. As a result, their quarterback situation remains unchanged from before the draft. One name that Pittsburgh has reportedly been keeping a close eye on throughout the process is Packers legend Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers was not retained by the New York Jets and is now waiting to see where he’ll land next. Some signs point to a potential future in Pittsburgh.

“I know that (Rodgers) has stayed in relatively constant contact with Mike Tomlin,” Insider James Palmer said on 93.7 The Fan. “So, I do believe there’s enough things pointing that Aaron Rodgers would be the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers.”

If the Steelers don’t sign Rodgers, the likely starter will be rookie Will Howard. Howard is considered a strong late-round pickup, especially after leading a team to a national championship. However, a decision from Rodgers may not come until after the NFL schedule is released on May 14.

“If you’re Rodgers, don’t you just at this point wait until after the schedule is out?” Mike Florio said. “Because it’s not like the Steelers are gonna get fewer primetime games than what they’d otherwise get.”

Florio suggests a decision may be just over a week away. Rodgers appears to be playing the long game, and with a team like the Steelers in need of a veteran presence, it seems increasingly likely that the quarterback could be heading to Pittsburgh.
