The Kansas City Chiefs will make their first selection in the upcoming National Football League Draft at No. 31 after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Kansas City isn't a stranger to picking toward the end of the first round after all of the success the team has had in recent memory. The Chiefs have been able to find plenty of value late in the round will make their first selection in nine days on April 24th, barring some sort of trade.

It seems like the most likely option for the Chiefs should be more offensive line help. The Chiefs retained Trey Smith, but traded Joe Thuney away. The Chiefs already had offensive line questions before either of these two decisions were made.

Pro Football Focus' Dalton Wasserman made a list of "surprise" options for each team in the upcoming NFL Draft and had running back TreVeyon Henderson for the Chiefs.

"No. 31. Kansas City Chiefs: RB TreVeyon Henderson," Wasserman said. "Chiefs running backs ranked 30th in yards per carry and 31st in explosive runs last season, including the playoffs. While Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt provide toughness and physicality, Ohio State’s TreVeyon Henderson could inject much-needed explosiveness and pass-catching ability into the backfield."

This would be pretty surprising. The Chiefs seem pretty set at running back right now. Hunt was good last year and is back in town. Pacheco dealt with a pretty serious injury for a chunk of the year but was able to return.

Henderson racked up 1,016 rushing yards in 2024 on 7.1 yards per carry to go along with 10 touchdowns in 16 games. While this is the case, it doesn't seem like the Chiefs have a big need here right now. The offensive line would be a better usage of the first-round pick or maybe someone to help bolster the secondary.
