John Elway's agent, business partner dies after accident involving HOF quarterback image

Jeff Sperbeck, the longtime friend and business partner of former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway tragically passed away on Wednesday in an accident while the two were golfing.

According to reports, the accident took place on Saturday in La Quinta, California. Elway was driving the golf cart that Sperbeck fell off the back of, sustaining a traumatic head injury. After being placed on life support, Sperbeck succumbed to his injuries

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that an investigation has been opened in regards to the incident but that it doesn't appear that Elway did anything wrong.

Sperbeck has been Elway's agent and business partner for many years. Together, they founded 7Cellars winery

Elway is said to have dialed 911 and a witness on site, Ali Simon, gave a statement to KESQ Channel 3 News.

"It was so sad, and our hearts just go out to the families. We got there, and [Sperbeck] was unfortunately lying on the ground, and there were people surrounding him just trying to make sure he was okay.

People were on the phone just trying to get help there as soon as they possibly could. It was so scary; it was nothing like we've ever seen. You just don't think you're ever going to witness anything like that," said Simon.

Sperbeck was 62 years old.
