New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm seemed confident his oblique injury wouldn't keep him off the field long.

Though that provided some hope, the reality is that the former All-Star was placed on the 15-day injured list after MRI results revealed three high-grade tears in his oblique.

Suffice it to say, Chisholm was surprised at the results.

"I was super surprised when I saw the results,” Chisholm said.

The Yankees called up infielder Jorbit Vivas to take the place of Chisholm while he recovers from the multiple tears.

It's unclear when the former Miami Marlins star will return, but he was adamant that the injury shouldn't require a lengthy recovery.

“It’s not as bad as it looks on the scan," Chisholm said.

After avoiding arbitration this offseason with a one-year, $5.85 million deal, it has been a volatile season for the 27-year-old. Chisholm is hitting just .181, but he's also hit seven home runs while posting a respectable .714 OPS.

Those numbers aren't close to what he gave New York during the second half last season following the trade from Miami, but the power is there, and he's been an incredible upgrade defensively over Gleyber Torres.

Chisholm has mostly struggled with strikeouts as his 35.1% whiff rate and 31.2% strikeout rate rank in the sixth and seventh percentiles, per Baseball Savant.

The Yankees have been hit with the injury bug in a nasty way to begin this season, and they'll have to make do without one of their premier players in the infield.
